A decision was made by a federal judge last Friday that will essentially block the launch of the new and upcoming live TV streaming service Venu Sports, which is a joint venture between FOX, Disney, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).
U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett ruled last Friday that FOX, Disney, and WBD are essentially blocked from launching Venu Sports, which was originally supposed to launch on August 23.
Part of the reason for ruling is due to the fact that FuboTV claims that the Venu Sports venture will hurt competition with it and other live TV streaming services, as well as “substantially lessen competition and restrain trade,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It was also stated that with the launch of Venu Sports, that it would cause current FuboTV subscribers to unsubscribe and go to Venu Sports, which would then lead to a FuboTV bankruptcy.
FOX, Disney, and WBD have stated they will appeal the order.
“We believe that Fubo’s arguments are wrong on the facts and the law, and that Fubo has failed to prove it is legally entitled to a preliminary injunction”¦Venu Sports is a pro-competitive option that aims to enhance consumer choice by reaching a segment of viewers who currently are not served by existing subscription options.”
The original plan, on top of the launch date, was that Venu Sports would cost $42.99 and give users access to most sports networks owned and/or managed by FOX Sports, Disney, and WBD such as FOX, FS1, FS2, ESPN Networks, ABC, TNT, and TBS, just to name a few.
