A recent report from Mark Gurman points to the biggest design revamp for the Mac mini since 2010, and yesterday, Aaron Perris (@aaronp613 on X) discovered some code that references an upcoming Mac mini with the exact string saying “Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port).” This lines up with what Mark Gurman expects for the next Mac mini.
To recap, the Mac mini will come with an all-new design whose footprint will be about the same size as the current Apple TV, and it will come with both the M4 and M4 Pro chips. It’s expected to retain the internal power supply and other traditional ports like Ethernet, HDMI, and a headphone jack; however, it will let go of the USB-A ports that we came to know for a long time. Instead, the new Mac mini is expected to come with five USB-C ports with two of them on the front. It’s possible that the next Mac mini will take the same approach as the Mac Studio where those two USB-C ports will be capped at USB 3 speeds for the base M4 model, but the ones in the M4 Pro model will also be Thunderbolt 4 enabled.
We’re just over a month away from the end of October, when we can expect to see the very first M4-based Macs, including the MacBook Pro and iMac, alongside some refreshed lower-end iPads, including the base iPad and iPad mini.
