Opinion: What is my least-used Apple product and why

Avatar for David Becker

I have been an Apple product user since 2008 when I got my first iPod, which was the iPod Shuffle, and over the years I have progressed and upgraded to other devices like the iPod Touch, iPad Mini, and iPhone.

These years and Apple product usage have led me to my current lineup which is the iPhone 15 Plus, iPad Air fifth generation, Apple Watch Series 5, and Apple TV 4K third generation, three of the HomePod Minis, and one original HomePod.

But out of all of those products that I own, which one probably gets the least amount of usage. Some might think that it would be the original HomePod since it is older and has plenty of dust on it.

The truth is that it is my Apple Watch Series 5.

My reasoning for this is simple; I got sick of this constant notifications to the point where most of them do not show up on my Apple Watch and are only available on my iPhone.

On top of that, I do not use hardly any of the health functions on my Apple Watch because I’m not much of a health person. I’m not one who would be going to or stepping foot into a gym. It’s simply not my thing.

Honestly, the only things that I use my Apple Watch the most are viewing the weather through CARROT Weather, answering text messages, and viewing the time. Sometimes I will put a countdown on it, such as last year when I had countdowns for important dates like the first day of fall or a countdown that says how many days until Christmas.

Of course, I do regularly use my Apple Watch for functions like Apple Pay in stores. I have found it to be the most convenient of methods for using it. Believe it or not, some workers I have seen even just during the past few months have been surprised to see Apple Pay work on my Apple Watch, not because it is an older model, but because they just didn’t know that Apple Pay was a feature of the Apple Watch as a whole.

I know that Apple has referred to the Apple Watch previously as one of its most personal devices to date since users can change the watch face, the apps on said watch face, and the watch bands, but for me, I keep the watch face and band the same for about 99.9% of the year. Every now and then I switch it out for a different one, but during the past year, I had the same watch face and band for a full 365 days.

So yes, the Apple Watch is one of my least-used Apple devices. I honestly probably use my Apple TV 4K way more than the Apple Watch, which is kind of saying something seeing as I don’t stream as much content as I did when I was younger (I read books a lot of the time or watch videos on my iPhone or iPad).

What are your thoughts on me not using my Apple Watch all that much? Comment below or let us know on X at @appleosophy.
