We’re less than half a year until we expect Apple to debut the next-generation iPhone 17 lineup, but one reputable display analyst, Ross Young, is already suggesting that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models will feature Face ID underneath the screen.
With the launch of the iPhone X, Apple did away with the top/bottom bezels and the Home button in favor of the much more modern edge-to-edge screen design. With Touch ID absent, this gave Apple the opportunity to introduce another biometric authentication system called Face ID, which is utilized by the TrueDepth Camera system located in the notch. Starting with the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple moved from the notch to the Dynamic Island as the new home for the Face ID system, which proves to be more useful as it automatically adapts to many of the top actions you’re performing such as playback controls for Music or quick shortcuts for things like Timer and Maps. And Apple is looking to improve on the design by not only going bezel-less on the display, but also aiming to have a small cutout on the top-left corner of the screen for the camera, according to The Information’s Wayne Ma. Google’s Pixel phones have had a single cutout for the camera, so we can be sure that Apple can make it work along with the under-screen Face ID.
We can expect the iPhone 18 Pro models to make their debut on fall of 2026, along with the iPhone 18 ‘Air’ and Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
