It took a while, but Apple has finally decided to thread the needle. The company officially joined Meta-owned social media platform ‘Threads’, two years after its launch. The verified username @apple has over 4.8 Million Followers already, thanks to Meta’s auto-follow feature, where any account will automatically follow the Threads account, if it follows their Instagram account. This strategy of Meta already gave a huge boost to Threads during the launch of the platform, which was and is still seen as an alternative to X/Twitter.
It is currently unclear how Apple will utilize this Threads account, although it seems highly likely that they will use it for advertising, similar to how they do on X (formerly Twitter). The company has over 9.8 Million followers on X, however, there are no posts on their page since they exclusively use it for promoting products, campaigns, and events.
On the other hand, they do regularly share posts on their “Shot on iPhone” campaign on Instagram, where they have over 34 million followers.
This could either be a new platform for Apple’s promotional activities, “Shot on iPhone” campaigns, or just a placeholder account reserved for future use.
