A few months ago, Apple analyst Jeff Pu said that the base iPhone 17 model would feature the current-generation A18 chip found in the iPhone 16/16 Plus/16e. This would mean that the iPhone 17 would be one generation behind the iPhone 17 Air/Pro/Pro Max in terms of Apple Silicon. However, he has now reversed course as of today.
He now expects the base iPhone 17 to feature the A19 chip after all with the iPhone 17 Air getting the A19 chip, and the iPhone 17 Pro models gaining the A19 Pro chip. Don’t take things with a grain of salt though because these specs may not be final. In fact, they’re still conflicting rumors about which chips the iPhone 17 models will use.
For instance, a Weibo account, Fixed Focus Digital, claimed that the iPhone 17 Air would get the A19 Pro chip (5-core GPU) as opposed to the 6-core GPU variant that the source expected for the iPhone 17 Pro models.
If this rumor turns out to be true, this may mean that all the models in the upcoming iPhone 17 line will sport the next generation of Apple Silicon.
Either way, we’re just less than two months until we expect Apple to announce the iPhone 17 series on the week of September 8.
