As July is coming to an end, this means that we’re about one month until Apple’s announcement for the iPhone 17 lineup; however, a prototype of the iPhone 17 Pro seemingly appeared in the wild. Keep in mind to not take this as gospel.
Earlier this week, @Skyfops on X shared two photos that depicts the mysterious prototype. As you can see in the first picture, a man wearing reflecting sunglasses is holding what seems to be an iPhone, and that iPhone is concealed inside a thick black protective case, possibly to prevent from revealing the final design of the iPhone 17 Pro. The man is also holding a second iPhone in front of the said prototype, and that iPhone appears to hide a data matrix code within the sticker, which is used by Apple for tracking internal iPhones.
Previous rumors indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro would mark a major redesign since the iPhone 11 Pro with the elongated, rectangular camera bump flanked by the triple camera setup on the left and the vertical arrangement of the LED flash/microphone/LiDAR scanner on the right. And based on the photos discussed, the prototype appears to further confirm those rumors.
If anything, this reminds me of when the iPhone 4 got left at a bar, and Gizmodo reported about the leaked device just a few months before WWDC 2010 when Apple announced the iPhone 4. During the announcement, Steve Jobs even jokingly told the audience to stop him if they had seen it already.
If anything, we should see the final design of the iPhone 17 Pro on the week of September 8.
