Apple is increasing the monthly subscription cost of Apple TV+ to $12.99 from $9.99 starting today in the U.S. and some other countries, as reported by Benjamin Mayo of 9to5Mac.
Apple TV+ launched in November 2019 with a limited number of titles, as expected from a new platform. As part of the new launch, Apple did offer a year of free trial for users who purchased a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or iPod Touch, which was extended twice, where subscribers received free access until July 2021. After which, each new device came with a three-month free trial of Apple TV+. Users who did not purchase a new device received a seven-day free trial, with a subscription cost of $4.99 per month. Fast forward to 2022, and the cost increased to $6.99 per month, followed by 2023 with an increase to $9.99 per month.
Starting today, the price of Apple TV+ is again increasing to $12.99, marking a 30% hike from the previous price, and a 160% increase from the original launch price. To be fair, Apple TV+ now also includes several new award-winning originals in the library over time. If you’re a yearly subscriber for $99 or use Apple One, the prices will remain the same for you, as per the report.
According to The Verge, “The price increase will go into effect immediately for new subscribers, while existing ones will see the changes reflected 30 days after their billing cycle ends, Apple spokesperson Tom Neumayr confirmed in an emailed statement to The Verge.
In a statement to The Verge, Tom Neumayr said, “Since it launch, Apple TV+ has expanded its deep library of hundreds of Apple Originals, with thousands of hours of premium programming across genres and brand-new releases weekly — all ad-free,”
