If you’re looking for any spec improvements on the upcoming iPhone 17 models, you’re in luck. Apple is expected to bump the memory on three out of four models in the iPhone 17 series. Currently, all models in the iPhone 16 series feature 8GB of memory. The last time we saw a memory spec bump for the Pro models was with the iPhone 15 Pro (up from 6GB on the iPhone 14 Pro). The current iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus got a memory bump recently when going from 6GB on the previous iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus to 8GB. It will be two years since the iPhone Pro models got a memory bump, and a report from TrendForce indicates that not only the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature 12GB of RAM, but also the iPhone 17 Air will feature the same amount.
With that said, here are the RAM specs we can expect:
- iPhone 17: 8GB RAM
- iPhone 17 Air: 12GB RAM
- iPhone 17 Pro: 12GB RAM
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 12GB RAM
Having more memory means improvements in multitasking and overall performance, especially with AI-related tasks such as Apple Intelligence. In several ways, the iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be one of Apple’s more premium offerings. Not only the iPhone 17 Air will feature the same amount of memory as the higher-end iPhone 17 Pro models, but also, both the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro will both feature the A19 Pro chip albeit one additional GPU core for the iPhone 17 Pro models. Both the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro will start at 256GB of storage and will have the same storage tiers (256GB/512GB/1TB). The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to start at $1,099 whereas the iPhone 17 Pro could start at $1,199, so it’d be within iPhone Pro’s pricing territory.
We’re less than week until Apple unveils the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9.
