Apple this week has announced an expansion of its Apple Manufacturing Academy with the launch of new virtual programming. This move enhances the company’s efforts to support small- and medium-sized businesses across the country in accelerating innovation and adopting advanced technologies.

The free educational resource was designed by experts at Apple and is part of the company’s long-standing commitment to strengthening the US advanced manufacturing sector. This initiative falls under Apple’s larger plan to invest $600 billion in the U.S. economy over the next four years to power domestic innovation.

“At Apple, we believe in the power of American ingenuity, and we’re proud to be delivering even more options to support small- and medium-sized companies across the country,” said Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer. He added that putting the curriculum online “open[s] the door for even more businesses and workers to build cutting-edge expertise, helping fuel U.S. competitiveness and support the growth of advanced manufacturing nationwide”.

What the New Virtual Courses Cover

Available starting today, the initial phase of the virtual courses covers several key areas of advanced manufacturing:

  • Advanced Manufacturing Topics: Automation, predictive maintenance, quality control optimization, and machine learning with vision.

  • Professional Development: Training is also offered in areas such as communication and presentation skills.

Apple plans to continuously expand these online materials as the program evolves. This on-demand digital format offers business owners and entrepreneurs a flexible way to strengthen and scale their domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Partnership with Michigan State University

The expanded virtual programming builds upon the momentum of the in-person facility in Detroit, which launched in partnership with Michigan State University (MSU). Since opening in August, the Detroit academy has provided hands-on training and consultation to over 80 businesses from states including Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Utah. The new virtual curriculum was developed by MSU faculty and industry experts from Apple.
