Earlier this week, MacWorld discovered internal code that leaks some of Apple’s upcoming products, including the next base iPad with the A19 chip as well as the next-generation Studio Display. Last, but not least, the leaked code also reveals even more details about Apple’s long-rumored all-new home accessory that would look like a “Frankenstein” version of both an iPad and HomePod.
The leaked code references the upcoming home accessory as “J490,” and internal code indicates that the said product is set to feature the A18 chip as well as the Center Stage camera, where you could make FaceTime video calls up to 1080p resolution directly on the device. Additionally, the camera system will also support Face ID recognition to easily switch between profiles. The Apple TV already has support for multiple profiles, so having this feature on this home accessory would make sense for everyone in the family to use it. The A18 chip will also support Apple Intelligence on this home accessory, and with many rumors indicating that Siri will get vast improvements as soon as iOS 26.4, this home accessory should feel like an upgrade experience that we’ve all been waiting for.
Additionally, the internal code references an unforeseen product identified as “J229.” It’s unclear what this product could be, but since the code suggests this product features alarm detection and built-in camera sensors, it could possibly be Apple’s own smart doorbell to compete against Ring products. Only time will tell, but Apple will surely get up its game in the smart home industry, especially with the rumored upgraded HomePod mini and Apple TV.
