This was inevitable; Meta made an announcement yesterday in its newsroom stating that ads will make their way into Threads starting next week globally.
According to Meta, “Beginning next week, we are expanding ads on Threads to users in all markets globally. This follows the initial rollout of ads on Threads to advertisers last spring. Ads on Threads are powered by Meta’s proven AI-powered ads system, which means people can expect to see the same level of personalization in Threads ads that they’re used to on other Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
For advertisers, ads on Threads are an easy way to extend the reach of their existing Meta campaigns, automatically adding Threads placements to Advantage+ and manual campaigns. The familiar image, video, and carousel ad formats appear natively in the Threads feed, helping brands reach more people in more places across Meta’s family of apps. Ads on Threads expansion to all users will be gradual, with ad delivery initially remaining low as we reach global user availability in the coming months.”
Threads now also accepts advertisements with a 4:5 aspect ratio and carousel formats.
The platform currently has more than 400 million active users monthly, which further solidifies the base for advertising.
Moreover, Threads is said have more daily users on mobile than X (formerly Twitter), as reported recently by TechCrunch, with data from Similarweb.
According to TechCrunch, “Similarweb’s data shows that Threads had 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android as of January 7, 2026, after months of growth, while X has 125 million daily active users on mobile devices.”
The fast-growth of Threads is primarily due to promotion on its already established social media platform, Instagram, as well as their auto-follow feature, where any account will automatically follow the Threads account if it follows their Instagram account. This strategy of Meta already gave a huge boost to Threads during the launch of the platform.
