Resell stock dwindling suggests M5 Pro/M5 Max MacBook Pro launch is imminent

Over the past weekend, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported that upcoming MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max would launch alongside macOS Tahoe 26.3 within this month or next month. Now, MacRumors was informed by an Apple Premium Reseller that the MacBook Pro stock is dwindling because there will be new products launching soon.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering that the Apple Online Store has been seeing severe shipping delays for select higher-end MacBook Pro models. With the latest information from that reseller, it’s an even better sign that MacBook Pros should be coming really soon (hopefully tomorrow), rather than later. Apple typically coordinates supply with its retail stores in advance of incoming refreshed models. Today, Apple released the Xcode 26.3 release candidate, but unusually, Apple did not launch release candidates for either iOS 26.3 or macOS 26.3. This may be because Apple didn’t want to reveal any details for any unreleased Apple products, particularly those MacBook Pros. You know how future software releases could leak tons of details about future Apple products.

This isn’t the first time that Apple “delayed” macOS release candidates. For example, Apple provided iOS 17.1 and the accompanying Xcode release candidate on October 17, 2023, but macOS 14.1 wasn’t provided until the day after Apple introduced its first M3 Macs.

As mentioned before, Apple hasn’t provided the iOS 26.3 release candidate yet. The iPhone 17e was rumored to be released sometime in the spring, so it’s possible that Apple is holding that RC off to prevent revealing any more details.

Only time will tell when Apple will update the higher-end MacBook Pro models. Apple already updated the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip last October, but expect this upcoming refresh to be relatively minor. However, Apple is planning an even larger refresh for MacBook Pro for the fourth quarter of this year with OLED touch screens and a thinner redesign.
