For those of you who were hoping to see updated higher-end MacBook Pros this week, this report is going to disappoint you. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, in his weekly “Power On” newsletter, he claimed that Apple is planning to update the MacBook Pro models alongside the release of macOS Tahoe 26.3, which saw a Release Candidate last week. He believes that Apple may unleash its refreshed MacBook Pro models and the public release of macOS 26.3 as early as the week of March 2.
For several weeks, people were wondering when Apple would update the higher-end models to the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Some speculated it would be the end of January, possibly to coincide with the launch of Apple Creator Studio. As last month came and went, some were expecting an update this month, but with this report, it looks like we have to wait a bit longer again, which begs the question: when will we see other updated Macs?
For the MacBook Air, Apple last updated that machine last March with the M4 chip, and I still believe that Apple could still update that laptop with the M5 chip alongside the launch of the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros. After all, the M5 chip has been out for a few months since its debut on the base 14-inch MacBook Pro (as well as the iPad Pro and Vision Pro). We could also see the budget-oriented MacBook with the A18 Pro chip next month, as well, since Apple tends to update its lower-end products in the spring timeframe, such as the base iPad. For the Mac Studio, Gurman says that it “shouldn’t arrive too long after the spring Mac refresh,” which suggests that we could see the Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra at WWDC 2026. Apple is also planning to launch the next Studio Display and Mac mini this year, although the exact timing for those products has been unclear. Finally, the biggest update in the Mac lineup will happen in the fall of 2026, when Apple will redesign its higher-end MacBook Pro models with the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, a thinner design, and tandem OLED touchscreens built in.
It looks like March will be the month to look forward to for some new hardware from Apple.
