As previously rumored, Apple introduces not just one, but two new Studio Display models that provide the optimal integration for any Mac that you own. Both of these models are aimed at catering to both everyday users and pro users.
Starting off with the standard Studio Display, it continues to feature the same stunning 27-inch 5K Retina display, studio-quality three-microphone array, an immersive six-speaker system with Spatial Audio, and a 12MP Center Stage camera that now brings improved image quality, presumably due to the new image signal processor in the newer Apple Silicon that this monitor uses. The Studio Display now supports Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, and this monitor has two Thunderbolt 5 ports, so you can seamlessly daisy-chain up to four Studio Display models. Since Thunderbolt 5 offers 96W of charging power, it can even fast-charge a 14-inch MacBook Pro. The Studio Display also has two USB-C ports to conveniently connect to other peripherals and charge other devices. These Macs will be able to take full advantage of the Thunderbolt 5 connectivity this Studio Display provides:
- MacBook Pro (M4 Pro, M4 Max, M5 Pro, and M5 Max)
- Mac mini (M4 Pro)
- Mac Studio (M4 Max and M3 Ultra)
Apple also introduces the newest addition to the lineup: the Studio Display XDR, bringing support for HDR content that pro users have been demanding. The Studio Display XDR has all of the features that the updated Studio Display has, but it raises the bar to cater to pro users. Thanks to using mini-LED technology, the same technology in the latest MacBook Pro models, the Studio Display XDR features an exceptional 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display that provides up to 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Additionally, the Studio Display now brings 120Hz refresh rates for a much smoother experience and Adaptive Sync that allows variable refresh rates between 47Hz and 120Hz with even lower display latency. This Studio Display XDR pairs well with not only the MacBook Pro, which has mini-LED displays with 120Hz ProMotion technology, but also the latest and greatest iPad Pro (M5), which can connect to external 120Hz monitors for a complete, smooth experience. Just like with the updated Studio Display, this Studio Display XDR also supports Thunderbolt 5. However, this XDR model gets an even higher charging rate via Thunderbolt 5 as it can fast-charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Both the Studio Display and Studio Display XDR are ideal companions for every Mac model, particularly the Mac mini, the Mac Studio, and the Mac Pro.
