Apple has started rolling out a security improvement update to users running iOS 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1, macOS 26.3.1, and macOS 26.3.2. This security enhancement comes two weeks after the release of these versions, except macOS 26.3.2, which was exclusively released for the MacBook Neo about a week ago.
Background Security Improvements is a feature that has been present on devices since the release of version 26.1, and it seems like it is finally being utilized after initial testing during the beta cycles of iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3.
To receive this update, you can go into Settings>Privacy and Security>Background Security Improvements and see iOS 26.3.1 (a)/ iPadOS 26.3.1 (a)/ macOS 26.3.1 (a)/ macOS 26.3.2 (a) on the screen.
According to Apple, “This Background Security Improvement provides additional protection and is recommended for all users. For information on Background Security Improvements, please visit this website: https://support.apple.com/102657“
This feature aims to bring regular security improvements, similar to the ones in full software updates (26.x.x), resulting in quicker updates, since it only requires a restart after downloading.
