Apple has started rolling out visionOS 26.4 to the public with notable new features for the M2 and M5 Apple Vision Pro models. This update comes almost a month after the release of visionOS 26.3.1, which debuted with a bug fix.
Similar to all the other software versions released today, visionOS 26.4 also ships with 8 new emojis, including an orca, trombone, landslide, ballet dancer, Fight Cloud, Hairy Creature, Treasure Chest, and distorted face.
This update also brings a major feature to Apple Vision Pro users, which is Foveated Streaming. According to Apple, “visionOS 26.4 supports NVIDIA CloudXR with foveated streaming, enabling apps to display high-resolution, low-latency immersive content on Apple Vision Pro.”
What is Foveated Streaming? In Apple’s own words, “If you have an existing virtual reality game, experience, or application built for desktop computers or a cloud server, you can stream it to Apple Vision Pro with the Foveated Streaming framework.
Foveated Streaming allows your endpoint to stream high quality content only where necessary based on information about the approximate region where the person is looking, ensuring performance. On Apple Vision Pro, you can also layer native spatial content over the streamed content. For example, a racing game can render the gauges in the interior of the car with RealityKit, and stream the processor-intensive outdoor environment from a remote computer to the device.”
Developers can find more information on this from Apple here and Nvidia here.
Apple keeps refining the software experience with every update, whilst also fixing security issues. visionOS 26.4 includes 27 security fixes for WebKit, Kernel, ImageIO, Sandbox Profiles, Siri, and more.
To update your Apple Vision Pro, you need to go into Settings, navigate to General, and click on Software update to view and download visionOS 26.3.1, after which you can remove the headset while the update completes.
It is highly recommended to update your Apple Vision Pro to the latest software for the best experience and security. Did you find any new changes in this update?
