Just recently, the Mac Studio has been seeing severe shipping delays, with many of the higher-end memory configurations unavailable for purchase. This could suggest that a hardware refresh is imminent, presumably at WWDC 2026; however, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported that the upcoming Mac Studio, which would feature the next-generation M5 Max and M5 Ultra, would be “delayed.” This means that we won’t see the refreshed Mac Studio until around this coming fall at the earliest.
To add insult to injury, for Apple’s redesigned MacBook Pros, which are expected to feature tandem OLED displays and the M6 Pro/M6 Max chips, the launch timeframe for those high-end laptops would likely be impacted as well. It was initially predicted for a fall 2026 introduction, but the launch for those laptops could be pushed into early 2027. It’s also rumored that those premium offerings could feature the “Ultra” branding name as Gurman predicted.
These delays are likely because of the ongoing severe memory chip supply constraints. With this report, it now seems uncertain when Apple will update either the Mac mini or the iMac. The Mac mini is also having a similar situation with the Mac Studio, with significant shipping delays and the highest memory configurations being “unavailable”. On the other hand, the iMac seems to remain in stock. We’ll just have to wait and see, as only time will tell if we’ll ever see updated Mac desktops soon.
