Apple kicked off its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) with a massive wave of announcements that will fundamentally change its software ecosystem. Alongside the highly anticipated debuts of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, the tech giant introduced major upgrades to the App Store. These new capabilities give developers more flexibility to market their apps, acquire users, and implement brand-new business models.

Streamlining App Marketing and Workflows

Developers are getting powerful new ways to showcase their apps directly within search results and product page headers. The new Creative Assets feature allows creators to use rich images and videos to highlight their brands or roll out seasonal promotions. These visuals integrate with custom product pages, and a new preview tool in App Store Connect makes it easy to test looks across screen orientations and Dark Mode. To keep workflows moving quickly, a centralized Asset Library will let developers manage and reuse all promotional videos and screenshots in one place. Furthermore, marketing imagery can now be submitted for App Review independently of an app update, preventing unnecessary launch delays.

Personalized Curation and Better Discovery

Finding your next favorite app or game is about to get a lot easier and more transparent. The App Store is rolling out Personalized Collections tailored specifically to individual user habits and interests. Alongside these collections, new App Notes will provide clear explanations detailing exactly why a specific app is being recommended to you. This enhanced curation will appear across the Apps, Games, and Search tabs, starting this week for English users in the United States. Game developers also gain a new Featuring Nominations system, allowing them to pitch special in-game offers and discounts directly to the App Store editorial team for promotion on the Apple Games app.

Advanced Subscription Models and Bundles

Monetization is receiving a massive upgrade through StoreKit 2, introducing capabilities designed to scale app businesses. This winter, developers can offer Group Purchases, allowing a single subscriber to buy multiple seats and seamlessly invite others to join via Apple-provided functionality. For corporate and educational environments, Volume Purchasing will arrive this fall to deploy subscriptions at scale using trusted IT infrastructure. Apple is also launching App Store Bundles, enabling entirely different developers to partner up and offer joint subscription packages at a discounted rate. Additionally, new Retention Messaging tools will let creators present special offers or tailored communications right when a user attempts to cancel.

Faster Submissions and Pure Apple Silicon Software

Apple is working hard to make the app submission pipeline much more productive and efficient for creators. App Review is receiving updates that allow developers to combine multiple in-app purchases and related items into a single, unified submission. This eliminates repetitive administrative work and speeds up the entire ecosystem’s compliance process. There is also a major shift happening on the desktop side of the Apple ecosystem. Apps and games distributed through the Mac App Store will no longer be required to support legacy Intel processors.

Next-Generation Screen Time and Time Allowances

The final piece of the update focuses heavily on families, arriving alongside the core upgrades in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Apple is introducing Time Allowances, which give parents highly flexible ways to manage how much time their kids spend inside specific app categories. These categories include Social Media, Entertainment, and Games, with age-tailored baselines built on expert research. To support this, Apple will update its developer age rating questionnaire this July to indicate whether apps include social media capabilities. The App Store will then automatically sort software into the proper categories, providing parents with the precise tools they need to make informed decisions.
