After weeks of beta testing, Apple has finally started rolling out iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 to the public with bug fixes, security fixes, and one notable new feature that helps get your iPhone and iPad ready for iOS and iPadOS 27. These updates come almost a month after the release of iOS 26.5.2 and iPadOS 26.5.2, which included security improvements.
According to the Release Notes of iOS 26.6, “This update includes bug fixes, security updates and optimizes the Spotlight index to prepare for iOS 27.

Since the new Siri AI on iOS 27 now supports features like Personal Context, it is essential for it to be tightly integrated with Spotlight Search so that Siri knows you. Several users who installed the first developer beta of iOS 27 reported that Spotlight Indexing was taking too long, with some devices taking almost two weeks, depending upon the data present on the iPhone.
Now, the iPhone will have plenty of time to index before the September release of iOS and iPadOS 27, after which users can access the full power of the new Siri AI without any delay. Siri AI will support all iPhones and iPad models with at least 8GB of RAM, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 series, iPhone 17 series, iPad Pro/Air with the M1 chip and later, and iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip.
iOS 26.6 also comes with a new alert or warning when a user tries to exceed the limit of blocked contacts. The exact official limit of blocked contacts is currently unclear, but if users want to block a contact after reaching the maximum limit, they’ll have to remove a blocked contact. This update will be one of the last major updates to iOS 26 before iOS 27 takes over.
All iOS 26 supported devices starting from the iPhone 11 will support iOS 27. However, iPadOS 26.6 might be one of the last major updates for the iPad (8th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), and iPad Pro (11-inch first generation).
Apple keeps refining the software experience with every update, whilst also fixing security issues, and this update is no different. As mentioned on their Security Update webpage, iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 include fixes for 78 security vulnerabilities involving WiFi, WebKit, Model I/O, Kernel, App Store, and many more
