Locast is an excellent way to stream your local stations for completely free. It is only available in select areas right now, though.

Having a DVR with the service would mean that it would cost money to operate, which is why I think it would be a good idea for them to have a cloud DVR that would cost somewhere in the line of $10-15 a month for those who truly wanted to have that.

My reason for thinking this is that I know people who do watch syndicated programming from local stations such as “Dr. Phil”, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and even sitcom reruns like “Friends” and “Family Guy.”

By allowing customers to do this, it could enable Locast to make even more money, which is not too big of a concern for them, considering they are a non-profit.

Another feature that the company could have by doing this is that they could toss out the 15-30-second ad every time a person changes the channel or the ad you get after you’ve been watching a channel for 15 minutes.

If anything, this would be a way for Locast to be more competitive with premium live TV streaming services like YouTube TV and Hulu with Live TV that have most of America’s local TV stations. Locast just makes it free.

Locast is available to stream on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. You can see our review of it here and also see that it has Picture-in-Picture support too.
