Apple today acquired the weather app Dark Sky, which the developers announced today on the Dark Sky website. The app is one of the most accurate source of hyperlocal weather information and includes down-to-the-minute forecasts.

There will be no changes to the Dark Sky app for iOS, and the app will continue to be available to purchase on the iOS App Store. The developers note that the app will shut down and can no longer be downloaded on July 1, 2020 for Android devices and Wear OS watches.
The company also mentions that they will no longer accept new signups for the Dark Sky API, and the API will shutdown at the end of 2021.
It is possible that we could see Apple build Dark Sky into its own weather app, which currently relies on data from The Weather Channel.
