It was a big week for news regarding Walmart possibly getting Apple Pay support in its stores and the World Wide Developers Conference next week could make it even crazier.

An article we posted this week from a source and screenshot on Reddit says the company could be adding Apple Pay support to its stores in as little as a couple of weeks.

Well, doesn’t this align almost with the timeline with WWDC?

It could be announced at some point during the keynote on Monday, June 22, that Apple Pay support could be coming to Walmart stores across the country, and then have support for the payment method be gradually rolled out into stores over the following week and weeks to come.

Walmart is one of the country’s largest and most popular retailers, as well as one of the longest holdouts of Apple Pay and contactless payments as a whole.

The company does have its own mobile payment system called “Walmart Pay,” in the Walmart app which makes users scan a QR code which then verifies the purchase and charges the person’s card.

However, in a time of coronavirus where people are looking to protect themselves from germs and not touching certain surfaces, the time for actual contactless payment methods has become ever more prudent.

Other stores such as Dollar Tree and Publix have added support for Apple Pay in its stores during the coronavirus pandemic because of how it does not require the use of physical cash, as well as the security and encryption benefits that come with it.
