The coronavirus may still be going on, but paying attention to the weather and storm chasing can be fun activities to do this summer and social distance as well.
Just look at this meteorologist, Katie Nickolaou from KMEG 14/KPTH 44 in Sioux City, IA, who is using her iPad to keep track of the weather in Blencoe, IA for storm chasing purposes. She is also wearing a mask that has a thunderstorm cell on it too, hence, showing that this is something people can do and still keep safe from the coronavirus too.

Apple’s iPhone and iPad have plenty of apps to go around for watching the storms come in and tracking them.
Here are some apps we recommend for doing that:
- RadarScope: This app is for those who really want to see a storm bit by bit and get the most accurate information from its radar system. The good news is not only is it widely available on the iPhone and iPad, but it is also available on the Apple TV, Apple Watch and has iMessage Stickers too. It currently costs $9.99 in the App Store.
- Dark Sky: Apple bought this app earlier this year and it is a good one for getting alerts when the precipitation and storms start rolling in. It is available on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple Watch, and costs $3.99 in the App Store.
- NOAA Radar Pro: Weather Alerts: Getting back to the weather radar, this one is one of the clearest of them all. What makes it unique is the user can highlight certain points, such as where they live and where their parents live to see what the weather is like in those areas in case either party has to be alerted for bad weather ahead. The Apple Watch app does give the app great notifications as well, which obviously can come in handy when bad weather strikes. It costs $4.99 in the App Store is available on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
- CARROT Weather: If alerts are what you are looking for and you don’t mind paying for it, then CARROT Weather is the way to go. The app not only has storm alerts, but gives accurate information when there is precipitation or lightning near you. The premium parts of the app have three tiers, all of which have a certain number of features. CARROT itself is $4.99 in the App Store and is available on the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and the Apple TV.
- The Weather Channel: Like the rest of society when it comes to its tech, TWC has adapted over the years, becoming more accurate in its findings and giving the average iPhone or iPad user the opportunity to get accurate weather, including forecasts, weather-related alerts and radars. It’s a free app in the App Store with in-app purchase options for premium features too. The app is available on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Apple Watch.
