Apple’s first Retina MacBook Pro is now officially obsolete after 8 years since its launch in 2012.

In a support document released by Apple, it notes that obsolete products are no longer available eligible for hardware service, with no exceptions. That means owners of 13-inch and 15-inch mid-2012 MacBook Pro’s that require hardware service including battery replacements will no longer be accepted at Apple.

Alternative options including third-party repair shops can still perform hardware repairs though some may not use official Apple Parts, another option is to order a battery from an online retailer like iFixit and perform the replacement yourself.
