Back in WWDC 2020, Apple announced that they were moving from the Intel Chipsets to the ARM-based Apple Silicon for their future Macs. It was quite unsure about when we would see the first Apple Silicon Product in the public, but a recent report from a Chinese newspaper, The China Times suggests that it would be as soon as this year.
The report reads,
According to Apple’s supply chain, Apple is expected to launch a Macbook with a 12-inch Retina Display at the end of this year, using its self-developed and designed A14X processor, with the development code of Tonga, supporting a USB Type-C interface and weighing less than 1 kilogram, because of the low-power advantage of the Arm-based processor. The Macbook battery lasts 15 to 20 hours. The A14X processor will also be used in the new generation iPad Pro tablet.
According to Bloomberg, Apple’s first Mac Processors will consist of 12 cores (eight high-performance cores and at least four energy-efficient cores) to ensure for maximum strength when processing on the new Big Sur software for macOS.
Other reports from notable sources, also say that the 13.3-inch ”ŒMacBook Pro”Œ could be getting the Apple Silicon first. Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that we will see the 13.3-inch variant either later this year or early next year.
We still don’t know which variant will ship with the Apple Silicon first, but gathering all the rumors and reports together we can understand that Apple is working hard on announcing multiple numbers of ARM-based Macs to the public soon.
