Those in the Madison, Wisconsin TV market are now able to get their local channels available for free.Â
The live TV streaming service Locast expanded its coverage to Madison, Wisconsin today. This expansion of the service will give users free access to 30 channels.Â
Those channels are WISC-TV, WMTV, WKOW, WMSN, PBS Wisconsin, PBS Kids, CourtTV, AntennaTV, The CW, BOUNCE, Movies!, LAFF, Mystery, GRIT, ION, CometTV, True Crime, Charge!, Azteca America and others.
It comes at a good time, as any sporting events broadcasted on any of the channels above, such as the Green Bay Packers or Wisconsin Badgers athletics, will be available to stream for free through Locast.
David Goodfriend, the founder of Locast, said bringing service to Madison takes him back to his roots.Â
“I was born and raised in Madison and graduated from Madison West High School and Beloit College,” he said. “I volunteered at the local NBC and PBS affiliates as a teenager. So launching Locast in my hometown means a lot to me personally.”
Locast is free to join and use. The service does have its own ad every 15 minutes while watching programming. To avoid having the ad, users can pay just $5 a month, as Locast is a non-profit and the money is used to keep the service running and to keep it free.Â
It is available to stream on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.Â
