It was announced this summer that select states in the United States would enable its citizens to use the Apple Wallet app to put their IDs and driver’s license in it with iOS 15.

According to a report from AppleInsider, Florida sounds like it could be the next state in the country to offer this feature.

The feature is set to primarily be used at TSA checkpoints, but the function could be used for other uses as well.

Florida is currently looking to offer its own app called “Smart-ID” that will allow the citizens of Florida to put their ID into its app in a secure way that could identify someone, if necessary.

Florida Politics has reported that while the app is online, it is not available to the public yet. It is expected to be available to the public by mid-November 2021. Meanwhile, support for the Wallet app is still in the works and will not launch at the same time as Florida’s new Smart-ID app.

Smart-ID is set to allow for police officers to securely identify someone using the app and age verification for restaurants and other businesses, when necessary.

The first states that are set to get the Wallet state ID feature are Iowa, Connecticut, Georgia, Oklahoma, Maryland, Kentucky and Utah. It is set to work on the iPhone and Apple Watch.

It has also been said that the feature could be launched in iOS 15.1, but that currently does not have a release date at this time.
