As Black History Month starts next week, Apple is preparing plenty of content to celebrate this heritage, and one special way is with an Apple Watch. If you happen to wake up this morning in whatever time zone you’re at, you might’ve seen this notification:
Apple has made its newest watch face called ‘Unity Lights’ available for users. You can either add it now on your Watch or through the Watch app on your iPhone.
This elusive Watch face brings 2D ray tracing to a watch face for the very first time. I actually learning about ray tracing in a computer graphics course. On a high-level, it’s a technique that allows each pixel to simulate light and shadows. As with other watch faces, this Watch face is very customizable.
If you want to take full advantage of the larger screen found in the new Apple Watch Series 7, you can choose the Rectangle dial. Alternatively, you can have the circle dial to allow for up to four complications. Apple says in a press release that the monogram is an option, but when I have yet to find this option. Maybe someone will reach out to Apple for clarification.
Additionally, iPhone/iPad/Mac users can download matching wallpapers at apple.com/watch. Finally, to compliment the new Watch face, Apple is selling the special-edition Black Unity Braided Solo Loop for $99.
To add the ‘Unity Lights’ watch face, you would need to have an Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 8.3, and an iPhone 6s or later running iOS 15.2. The Black Unity Solo Loop is compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 or later as well as the SE.
