The iPhone 14 Pro camera system will be significantly upgraded with a big jump in the megapixel count to 48MP, and for Apple, to make this happen, the wide camera sensor will increase by 21% according to a sketchy Chinese report.

The Weibo account “Fishing 8” has posted details regarding the camera system that will be featured on the next pro flagship iPhone. The camera sensor on the upcoming device is rumored to be sized at 1/1.3 compared to 1/1.65 on last year’s devices. This is a 21-percent increase and it requires a larger camera array and sensor lens.

Last month, 3D CAD renders gave us a preview of the next iPhone with a pill-shaped hole-punch display and more noticeably ”“ a larger camera bump to house the new system.

The account claims that while the iPhone 14 Pro will feature a 48MP camera, the pixels in the wide camera sensor will be reduced for better images ”“ 1.22µm compared to 1.9µm on the iPhone 13 Pro lineup.

Finally, the report claims that the iPhone 14 Pro will feature the Dual Pixel Auto Focus (DPAF) system that has been found on every device since the iPhone 6. Apple’s branded name for DPAF is “Focus Pixels” which is basically fast autofocus that the camera performs on people and objects.

Later last month, Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple will keep the camera bump on the next pro variants to house as well as upgrade the wide camera sensor to 48MP. He also claimed that the iPhone’s contact image sensor (CIS)will increase by 25 to 35 percent while the height of the 7P lens system will increase by 5 to 10 percent.
