Apple is celebrating Black History Month with exclusive content and launching a new special-edition Apple Watch Sport Loop that is available to order today. Starting in February, exclusive content will be launched such as Apple Maps Guides created by the Smithsonian, curated TV and film collections, and more. Additionally, Apple is expanding its support of five organizations through its Racial Equity and Justice Initiative to unlock creative potential through technology.
Members of Apple’s Black creative community came together to design this year’s collection, with vibrant colors and shapes.
Apple Watch and iPhone
The new Sport Loop band will feature the word “Unity” woven in a very beautiful and unique way, the band is now available to order. The new band will match with a new gorgeous watch face and iPhone wallpapers will be available next week when iOS 16.3 is released.
Apple said that Apple Watch users throughout February, can participate in the Unity Challenge and earn a limited-edition award by closing their Move ring seven days in a row.
App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple News, Apple Books, and Apple Podcasts
- The App Store will spotlight apps and games that help Black communities and are developed by Black developers.
- Apple Music will feature Black artists, songs, and producers in a new playlist, “For Us by Us”.
- Apple TV app will have curated movies from Dr. Jelani Cobb; the theme of this year’s collection is “The Matter of Black Lives”.
- Apple News will highlight articles, news, and perspectives from top journalists about the Black experience in America.
- Apple Books will showcase its Read More Black Authors collection.
- On February 1, Apple will spotlight podcasts that embody the “omnipresence of Blackness”.
Fitness+
Apple Fitness+ will be featuring playlists celebrating Black artists, a meditation led by Fitness+ trainer JoAnna Hardy, and an audio experience with legendary singer Patti LaBelle. Additionally, Time to Run will feature a new episode with Fitness+ trainer Cory Wharton-Malcolm, celebrating Black History Month with a run through South LA and songs from West Coast hip-hop artists.
