Apple is diversifying its production by moving some AirPods components production to India, following the move of some iPhone production, according to Bloomberg.

Apple or the manufacturers have not made the move public, but Jabil is sending plastic components of AirPods to Vietnam and China. This new effort is intended to reduce Apple’s reliance on Chinese production lines, which has become an important issue for the company after the delays of the iPhone Pro 14 and Pro Max in 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions in Chinese factories or trade relations between the United States and China have been tense.

  • The report also states that Jabil operates a facility with 858,000 square feet and up to 2,500 employees.
  • Apple is pushing this move as India’s Prime Minister Modi is planning to provide incentives for local manufacturers of wireless earphones and smartwatches.
  • “Now that Apple won approval they are developing a complete supply chain for the product” Neil Shah, vice president of research at Counterpoint.

Apple’s diversification of product lines is now a clear objective for the company after last year’s success of moving their production line of the iPhone 14 to India, resulting in up to 2.5 billion devices exported from the Asian country.
