With the high anticipation of the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup, we’ve been getting some early leaks on what the next generation’s design could look like. Late last week, 9to5Mac posted exclusive renders of the upcoming Pro model. These renders were reportedly based on a CAD model, which Apple provides to case manufacturers to develop cases for future models in advance. Having CAD files that are accurate to the final design’s details is very important to reduce losses for case designers and factories.

If you take a look at these renders, the first thing you may notice is the USB-C in place of the Lightning port that has been on iPhones for just over a decade. With Mac and iPad models making the switch to USB-C, it’s about time for the iPhone to follow suit, especially since the European Union has demanded to make this port standard across all mobile devices. However, we could see Apple differentiating the capabilities of the port between the standard and Pro models. For instance, we could see USB 2.0 speeds on the standard model while the faster Thunderbolt speeds could be exclusive to only the Pro models. This would be similar to how the iPad 10’s USB-C port is limited to only USB 2.0 speeds and the iPad Pro’s port is Thunderbolt-capable.

Secondly, the upcoming design could feature small curvatures along the edges – both on the front and back. This would closely resemble the more modern designs of the latest MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Of course, the next-generation iPhone wouldn’t be without improvements across the full-fledged camera system. With those larger sensors, we could see even thicker camera lenses, thus those would protrude out more than before.

If we take a look at the sides, you’ll see placements for the Mute switch, volume buttons, and SIM tray (on international models). There have been rumors about solid-state buttons for the next iPhones, so we could see those on the iPhone 15. Finally, we could even see slimmer bezels based on the upcoming design, and based on another image shared by Unknownz21, the metal frame could be made out of titanium, which is also used for the Apple Watch Ultra’s exterior.

With all of these renders, it looks like an exciting year for the iPhone with a brand-new design. Would you buy an iPhone that’s made out of titanium over stainless steel?
