With the ongoing, wide anticipation of Apple’s first virtual-reality headset, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, has shared even more details on the company’s next big thing.
According to his “Power On” newsletter for this week, unlike with any Apple Watch, you’ll likely be able to set up Apple’s upcoming headset and download your content independently, including iCloud data without the need of pairing an iPhone. However, if you like, you could migrate data from an iPhone, similar to how you set up a new Apple device.
“In-air typing” will be another next feature for the upcoming headset that will enable users to use eye movements and hand gestures to type words. However, Gurman warned that this feature is still in the works, probably in beta. Therefore, you’ll probably need to pair an iPhone to use its touchscreen keyboard. This is similar to the integration between iPhone and Apple Watch that will let you use the iPhone’s touchscreen to type input for your Apple Watch.
The upcoming headset is expected to be dubbed “Reality Pro”, and rumors have pointed to an introduction as early as this June when Apple hosts its annual WWDC. Additionally, the company is also developing more headset models to expand the lineup in the future, including a lower-end model to be launched as early as late 2024.
I’m personally excited about how Apple is going to enter the virtual reality market. Although this upcoming device won’t replace your iPhone anytime soon, it’s still going to be an interesting accessory to Apple’s current product lineup. We can expect these devices to feature the M2 chip when they will first launch with next-generation M-class chips to make their way in future generations.
