With OLED displays becoming the standard across today’s lineup of Apple Watch and iPhone models (save for the iPhone SE), that advanced display technology has yet to make its way to the iPad and Mac. We’ve had some reports that next year’s lineup of iPad Pros could feature the highly anticipated displays.
However, according to industry sources cited by The Elec, Apple is already considering offering both the 11-inch and 13-inch models with up to an 80% price increase over the existing models. Specifically, the next 11-inch model would start at around $1,500, and the next 13-inch model would start at around $1,800.Â
We’ve seen price hikes across many of Apple’s products whenever they introduce a new design or a breakthrough in display technology. However, those price hikes we’ve seen in the past were about $100-$200 price increments over the previous generation. Therefore, it’s unprecedented to see such a massive price hike. So what could Apple do to market those upcoming iPad models?
Let’s take a look at the Apple Watch Ultra, which starts at an even higher price than the standard Apple Watch. Besides having a stronger case that’s made out of titanium, it offers even more features that hardcore Apple Watch owners would pay more for such as twice as long battery life, a bigger screen, and improved water resistance. We’ve even had reports that Apple could introduce an iPhone “Ultra” model as soon as next year.
So based on Apple’s marketing strategy, it would make more sense if Apple were to introduce the upcoming OLED iPad as the “iPad Ultra”, which will be the most advanced iPad they’ve ever made with the breakthrough OLED display that will allow professionals to work with HDR content. Besides the display, I hope that Apple’s going to introduce even more exclusive features that set those models apart from the existing iPad Pro. Only time will tell if we’ll ever see an OLED iPad soon. What would you like to see in a future iPad Pro or any new flagship iPad if Apple were to announce one? Let us know in the comments below.
