First Impressions: Apple Music Classical

Avatar for David Becker

Apple hit the big button that launched the brand new Apple Music Classical app this week, and with that comes my initial opinions on the app.

For those that do not know this, classical music is my favorite genre of music out there, so you can imagine the excitement I had when there were reports of Apple making a dedicated app just for classical music.

After trying out the new Apple Music Classical app on my iPhone 12 Mini, I can say that I do like the layout of the app and that it’s fairly similar to the regular Apple Music app. People might say that is boring but that has been one of my favorite aspects about Apple over the years.

Oh, and I like the fact that there is no additional charge to use Apple Music Classical if you already have an Apple Music subscription.

When it comes to the music itself, you can tell that Apple has put a lot of thought into it, which includes the playlists, stations, and everything that is available for users to stream.

However, best of all, Apple Music Classical does solve a somewhat debate in the music community which is that Apple does consider film scores to be classical music. My own brother and I have had that debate for at least a couple of years now, so I’m glad Apple resolved that.

Film scores such as “Harry Potter,” “Fantastic Beasts,” “Lord of the Rings,” and “Star Wars” are some notable scores that can be found in the Apple Music Classical app.

The only cons that I do see from this app early on are the fact that when I add music, it only adds it to the Apple Music app, but not the Apple Music Classical app. That’s kind of annoying because sometimes you want the worlds to be separate, with the other flaw being that the app is not made for the iPad or CarPlay where it could be used more frequently there.

Be sure to stay tuned in the coming days for my full review of Apple Music Classical.
