Apple Released Shorter 1m Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable

Along with the USB-C to Lightning Adapter, Apple also released a shorter Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable. Apple has offered longer Thunderbolt 4 Pro cables for a while (at a very steeper price), but Apple added a shorter cable at a lower cost for those who plan to purchase an iPhone 15 Pro. Apple brought USB-C to the iPhone for the very first time starting with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro that was announced yesterday. However, it’s important to note that the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are limited to USB 2.0 speeds at 480 Mbps while the port on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are capable of transfer speeds at up to 10 Gbps thanks to the USB 3 controller found in the next-generation A17 Pro chip.

Therefore, while the new one-meter Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable is compatible with both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, you can only take full advantage of the faster USB 3 speeds when connecting the iPhone 15 Pro to a Mac (with a Thunderbolt/USB-C port) with this cable. It’s also important to note that the USB-C cable that comes included with the iPhone 15 Pro will likely support only USB 2 speeds. With that said, you should consider purchasing this cable if you’re planning to transfer those ProRAW photos and ProRes videos from your iPhone 15 Pro to your Mac. As always, this cable is also compatible with any iPad with a USB-C port, including the iPad Pro models with Thunderbolt, and it also has a braided design similar to the USB-C cables that will ship with all the iPhone 15 models.

The new 1-meter Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable is available to order at Apple today at $69. Make sure to follow us on @Appleosophy to hear even more stories on the all-new products announced this week.
