Alaska Airlines has announced that it is not the first airline to begin supporting and accepting Tap to Pay during its flights.
Flight attendants on the airplanes have already been using iPhones to make sure passengers are in their correct seats, bringing pre-flight meals, as well as bringing them for passengers to buy drinks and snacks.
With Tap to Pay technology from Apple and Stripe, the airline can now accept contactless-based payments from its iPhones.
Charu Jain, senior vice president of innovation and merchandising, said it is a major move for the airline.
“We’re constantly innovating to give our guests the most seamless and caring experience possible,” Jain said. We’re proud to partner with Stripe to be the first airline to bring Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology to flight.”
When buying snacks and drinks on the flight, a passenger will simply just have to hold their iPhone, Apple Watch, or contactless credit/debit card over the iPhone in order to make the purchase and payment.
