Appleosophy Streaming Picks: December 2023

Avatar for David Becker

It’s the final month of the year and with that comes the best time of the year to be streaming TV shows and movies with the holidays going on.

TV:

  • “The Crown” (Season 6, Part 2): The final part of the final season of this series will arrive on Netflix on Tuesday, December 14.

  • “Family Guy”: While the humor maybe inappropriate and juvenile, the holidays and work during this time of the year can make people very stressed and in need of a good laugh. All 22 seasons of this show can be streamed on Hulu.

  • “Coach Prime” (Season 2): University of Colorado head football coach Deon Sanders has made quite the name for himself this college football season and in this series, you get a behind the scenes look of him and the Colorado football program. It will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, December 7.

  • “SpongeBob Twas the Night Before SpongeMas Special”: This SpongeBob-themed holiday special will be available to stream on Paramount+ on Friday, December 1.

  • “Friends”: With the recent death of Matthew Perry who played Chandler Bing in this hit TV series, the series has Christmas episodes in its 8/10 seasons. The episodes and the entire series can be streamed on MAX.

Movies:

  • “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”: Along with it having a Christmas scene, it does have fall and winter-related scenes in it, as well as a memorable story overall. The movie can be streamed on Showtime and Paramount+.

  • “Iron Man 3”: Like with “Die Hard” not being a Christmas movie, neither is this movie but it does take place around the holidays and can be seen on Disney+.

  • “Toy Story”: The time for thinking about toys is here for the kids and four “Toy Story” movies can be streamed on Disney+.

  • “Angry Angel”: This is a great film starring Brenda Song that takes place during the holidays, but is not considered a holiday film. It can be streamed on Tubi and the Freeform app.

  • “Menorah in the Middle”: For those that celebrate Hanukkah, this could be a good movie to stream and it can be streamed right now on Hulu.

Christmas specials:

  • “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (1966): Some people love the newer animated version (Peacock) and some people love the Jim Carrey version, but the first animated version here can be streamed on Peacock.

  • “The Polar Express”: It’s been an iconic Christmas film for over a decade and will continue to do this year on Hulu and MAX.

  • “The Santa Claus” films: All three films and the original series (“The Santa Clauses”) can be streamed on Disney+.

  • “Christmas with the Kranks”: Speaking of Tim Allen, this other holiday film of his can be streamed on Prime Video and AMC+.

  • “Deck the Halls”: It’s not as common as other holiday films, but this is a good and funny one, and I’d argue it’s funnier than “Elf.” It is available to stream on Hulu and Starz.

  • “All Good Things”: It’s a lot like a Hallmark or Lifetime film without the Hallmark or Lifetime branding. It is available to stream on Peacock and with ads on Tubi and Pluto TV.

  • “Doctor Who” holiday episodes: Holiday episodes from the New Who series (Seasons 1-13) can be streamed on MAX. However, there will be a brand new Christmas special and the first episode with the 15th Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, in it which will be available on Disney+ starting on Monday, December 25, also known as Christmas Day.

  • “The Christmas Train”: This film starring Dermot Mulroney can be streamed on Hallmark Movies Now, Prime Video, and Peacock.

  • “Love Actually”: This movie is pretty popular around this time of the year and it is the 20th anniversary of the movie. It is available to stream on Netflix.

  • “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”: This movie can be streamed on Hulu and MAX.
