As we just entered into the month of April, several sources are now pointing towards a May release of the highly anticipated iPad Pro/Air models. In Mark Gurman’s latest edition of his Powered On newsletter, he expects both of those models to be announced in the week of May 6. He also mentions that Apple Retail stores will receive new marketing materials that week, which would further indicate a new production announcement as soon as that week.

Both of Apple’s higher-end tablets were originally rumored to launch last month. With several delays in the production of the OLED displays for the next iPad Pro and the fine-tuning of the iPadOS software update, the launch has repeatedly been pushed to next month.

To recap, here’s what to expect for both the iPad Air and Pro:

  • iPad Air: M2 chip, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, landscape front-facing camera, all-new larger 12.9-inch model
  • iPad Pro: M3 chip, OLED displays on both the 11-inch and 13-inch models, all-new thinner design
  • New accessories: redesigned Magic Keyboard with partly aluminum base and third-generation Apple Pencil with interchangeable chips and Find My support.

It has been over a year since Apple updated both of those models as the iPad Air and iPad Pro were last updated in March 2022 and October 2022, respectively. Even Apple didn’t announce any new iPad models last year, marking the first absence of new updates for iPads within a calendar year. Only time will tell if we’ll see new iPad Airs or iPad Pros as soon as early next month.
