Smart Folio for iPad mini (A17 Pro) doesn’t support a wide range of viewing angles

Earlier this week, Apple updated its smallest iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip to support the upcoming Apple Intelligence. Along with that hardware refresh, Apple updated the colors for its complementary Smart Folio. However, unlike the Smart Folios for both the iPad Air (M2) and iPad Pro (M4), this Smart Folio does not support a wide range of viewing angles.

If you take a look at the iPad mini Smart Folio’s product page, you’ll find no references about the wider range of viewing angles. This indicates that the magnets in the Smart Folio for iPad mini have never been tweaked to support multiple viewing angles. Rather, the viewing angle remains fixed when propping the iPad mini up.

If you look at the pages for either of the higher-end iPads, you’ll see that those Smart Folios do offer a wider range of viewing angles, which gives users the flexibility to change the viewing angle when propping either the iPad Air or iPad Pro up, which is made possible thanks to the tweaked magnet arrangement inside those Smart Folios.

Since the smallest Smart Folio works with both the iPad mini 6 and iPad mini 7 (A17 Pro), this detail is something that’s worth mentioning in case you’re looking to buy a Smart Folio for your existing iPad mini or have considered upgrading to the iPad mini 7.

The Smart Folio for iPad mini 7 (A17 Pro) comes in Charcoal Gray, Sage, Denim, and Light Purple, and it retails for $59. You can purchase the iPad mini 7, and it’ll hit stores on October 23.
