Apple has announced today that Tap to Pay will getting supported in more European countries.

The company said it plans to expand Tap to Pay into Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, Romania, and Sweden.

By doing this, it will enable large and small businesses to use devices like the iPhone as a point-of-sale (POS) tool, as well as give customers the ability to pay from their iPhone or Apple Watch via Apple Pay in said businesses from a POS-dedicated iPhone.

Best of all, Apple says this new support begins as soon as today and which financial institutions and payment platforms are already supporting and accepting Tap to Pay over in those countries.

“Starting today, Adyen, SumUp, and Viva.com are the first payment platforms to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone across all five countries. Global Payments with Erste Bank is available in Austria, Czech Republic, and Romania; Stripe is available in Austria, Czech Republic, Ireland, and Sweden; Nexi is available in Austria and Sweden; Revolut is available in Austria and Ireland; myPOS and PAYONE are available in Austria; and Zettle by PayPal is available in Sweden. hobex in Austria, BOI Payment Acceptance\Global Payments and Square in Ireland, and Surfboard Payments in Sweden will enable Tap to Pay on iPhone for their customers in the coming weeks. Tap to Pay on iPhone works with contactless credit and debit cards from leading payment networks, including American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa.”

In order for an iPhone being used as a POS device, it must be an iPhone XS or newer, and be running the newest version of iOS. Other than that, no additional hardware would be necessary for a business to utilize Tap to Pay.
