‘iPhone 17 Air’ is rumored to become the thinnest iPhone ever, even thinner than the iPhone 6

The ultra-thin form factor of Apple’s next iPhone has been on the rumor mill for several months now, and Apple analyst Jeff Pu has agreed with a recent rumor that the ‘iPhone 17 Air‘ as we like to call it will be about 6mm thick.
For comparison, the thinnest iPhone that has ever been made to this day is the iPhone 6, which is 6.9mm thick, but if this report turns out to be true, the iPhone 17 Air will break that record as the thinnest iPhone ever. However, it will still not be the thinnest product from Apple as that superlative goes to the seventh-generation iPod nano and the 13-inch iPad Pro (M4), which are 5.4mm and 5.1mm thick respectively.
Still, it will be a remarkable feature of engineering similar to how Apple designed and introduced the MacBook Air back in 2008 as the “world’s thinnest notebook.” Of course, the battery capacity and technology are going to play a big role in designing such a thin profile, so the iPhone 17 Air will theoretically be approximately three-quarters the thickness of all the latest iPhone 16 models.
Last month, Pu expected that the iPhone 17 Air would have a 6.6-inch display, which will be slightly smaller than the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 16 Plus. Other features he expects are an aluminum frame, Face ID, a single 48-megapixel rear camera (instead of the dual camera system on iPhone 16), and a larger 24-megapixel front camera (improved from the existing 12MP, and 8GB of memory for supporting Apple Intelligence. So it will be some sort of “Frankenstein” middle-ground so to speak.
Since we expect the iPhone 17 Air to be introduced in September 2025, rumors are always subject to change, so stay tuned as we get more news on this elusive smartphone.
