The original AirTag was introduced on April 2021 as Apple’s accessory for your iPhone to help you keep track and find everyday items easily. It’s been over four year since the launch, and it has yet to receive another spec update at least.
According to Mark Gurman in his Powered On newsletter, he briefly indicated that the next-generation AirTag is getting closer to launch; however, in his Q&A section, he questioned whether it would be notable enough to be introduced at WWDC.
Still, we should see solid improvements for the next-generation AirTag, including:
- the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip that’s found in these models:
- the iPhone 15 lineup
- the iPhone 16 lineup, excluding 16e
- Apple Watch Series 9 / Series 10 / Ultra 2
- Vision Pro / spatial computing integration
- a more tamper-proof speaker to thwart further stalking attempts
We expect the upcoming AirTag to retain the same design as before. Currently, AirTag retails for $29 (1-pack) and $99 (4-pack).
