Apple has started rolling out macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 to the public an important security fix for supported Macs. This update comes more than three weeks after the release of macOS Sequoia 15.6, which debuted with bug fixes and security improvements. Apple keeps refining the software experience with every 15.x. update whilst also fixing issues.
According to Apple, “This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit: https://support.apple.com/100100”
Upcoming updates to macOS 15 Sequoia are now expected to only include refinements and security patches as Apple gears up for macOS Tahoe 26. macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 includes a fix for an important security flaw. This should be a very important security fix, as they have pushed out an update just for one security flaw. Here’s how Apple describes the issue:
“ImageIO
Impact: Processing a malicious image file may result in memory corruption. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.
Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.”
macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 is available for:
- MacBook Air (2020 and later)
- MacBook Pro (2018 and later)
- iMac (2019 and later)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- Mac mini (2018 and later)
- Mac Studio (2022 and later)
- Mac Pro (2019 and later)
Along with macOS 15.6.1, Apple also rolled out macOS Sonoma 14.7.8 and macOS Ventura 13.7.8 for Macs running these versions, fixing the same security issue.
