Earlier this year, we reported that Steve Jobs would be featured on a United States dollar coin to represent California as part of the American Innovation Dollar Coin Program, and several design candidates were unveiled. As we’re getting closer to that year, today, the United States Mint officially unveiled the final design for the coin that will honor Steve Jobs.
Here’s what the United States Mint describes this design, according to its press release:
This design presents a young Steve Jobs sitting in front of a quintessentially northern California landscape of oak-covered rolling hills. His posture and expression, as he is captured in a moment of reflection, show how this environment inspired his vision to transform complex technology into something as intuitive and organic as nature itself.
The designer is Elana Hagler, and the sculptor is Phebe Hemphill. Additionally, the obverse features the common “Statue of Liberty” design for the program. Every year has a distinct privy mark for the dollar coins in that program, and for 2026, a privy mark will depict the Liberty Bell along with the inscription “250” to commemorate the Semiquincentennial of the United States’ founding. 2026 also marks 50 years since Apple was co-founded by Steve Jobs.
This dollar coin, along with the other coins that represent Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, will be available sometime next year in bags/rolls and even proof sets from the United States Mint.
