The next generation of Apple’s small but popular product, AirTag, has been announced today, after a long wait.
The new AirTag comes with Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, found in the iPhone 15, iPhone 16, iPhone 17 models, along with the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and SE 3. This chip adds new features to the AirTag, such as improved Precision Finding, where users can easily locate their items with 50% more range when compared to the previous AirTag with the first-generation Ultra Wideband chip.
This allows users with supported Apple Watch models to find their items with more range by using the new AirTag.

Apple has also upgraded the design internally on the new AirTag, resulting in 50% louder sound.
Similar to the previous AirTag, the new one has built-in privacy and security, along with protections from unwanted tracking. According to Apple, “The new AirTag is designed from the ground up to keep location data private and secure. AirTag doesn’t physically store location data or history on device, and end-to-end encryption protects all communication with the Find My network, ensuring that only the owner of a device can access its location data. No one, including Apple, knows the identity or location of any device that helped find it. Designed exclusively for tracking objects, and not people or pets, the new AirTag incorporates a suite of industry-first protections against unwanted tracking, including cross-platform alerts and unique Bluetooth identifiers that change frequently”

Moreover, the updated AirTag is environmentally friendly as it is made with the following materials, as stated by Apple:
- 85% recycled plastic in the enclosure
- 100% recycled rare earth elements in all magnets
- 100% gold plating in all Apple-designed printed circuit boards
- 100% fiber-based paper packaging
Since the exterior design is the same as the previous AirTag, all existing accessories will work with the new one as well. In terms of pricing, the new AirTag has the same price tag of $29 for a single unit, and $99 for a pack of 4.
The new precision finding feature on the Apple Watch will require watchOS 26.2.1, indicating its release with iOS 26.2.1 soon.
