Two Studio Display models use two variants of the A19 chip

Earlier this week, Apple announced two new Studio Display models after much anticipation. As you may know, the original Studio Display, introduced in March 2022, featured Apple Silicon, especially the A13 Bionic chip, which enabled the tight integration with any connected Mac. This includes support for “Hey Siri” or “Siri”, the image signal processing, and the optimal display performance thanks to the built-in display controller. In the months leading up to this week’s announcement, there were several code leaks that referenced both the A19 and the A19 Pro chips for Apple’s latest monitors. As a result, there were conflicting rumors on whether this Studio Display would use either the A19 or the A19 Pro.

It turns out that Apple is using both of these chips for its latest Studio Display models. As discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, the firmware confirmed that the regular Studio Display uses the A19 chip, and the Studio Display XDR uses the A19 Pro chip. This is the perfect strategy for product differentiation.

Both the A19 and A19 Pro chips are Apple’s latest generation of Apple Silicon for iPhones, and the ongoing strategy is to have the regular iPhone use the standard A-series chip and the Pro iPhone use the A-series Pro chip.

The Studio Display XDR is Apple’s next high-end monitor that replaces the extremely outdated Pro Display XDR by offering even more advanced features, such as 120Hz refresh rates and Adaptive Sync.

Both Studio Display models can be pre-ordered, and they’ll launch on Wednesday, March 11.
