Today, Apple added three products to its vintage and obsolete product lists, including older models of the Apple TV, iPad mini, and MacBook Air, as noted by MacRumors.

First, it’s the star of the show. Then, it becomes the tool you can’t live without, and eventually, it earns its legacy. The Vintage Product list has one new addition: MacBook Air (13-inch) from 2017.

How does Apple classify a product as “Vintage”? According to Apple, “Products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.”

Unlike obsolete products, Vintage Products can still be serviced by Apple based on the availability of parts.

On the other hand, Apple has added two products to its ‘Obsolete’ Products list, including the Apple TV HD (32GB), along with both the Cellular and WiFi only models of the iPad mini 4, both of which were launched in 2015.

According to Apple, “Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago. Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, and service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. Mac laptops may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability.”

The move reflects Apple’s ongoing product cycle, where older devices gradually shift to the vintage and obsolete lists as new models take center stage.
