Apple is now expanding the availability of two health features in India, including Sleep Apnea for Apple Watch and Hearing Test for AirPods, as announced by Apple today. Both these features were introduced back in September of 2024 with a gradual rollout to several countries. Recently, Apple also added support for Hypertension Notifications for Apple Watch users in India.

What is Sleep Apnea?

According to a health document by Apple, “Sleep apnea is a common and treatable disorder that negatively impacts people’s health and quality of life. Despite advances in public awareness about the importance of sleep, most cases of sleep apnea remain undiagnosed. Apple Watch can track Breathing Disturbances during sleep and provide notifications of possible sleep apnea if Breathing Disturbances values reach a level associated with moderate to severe sleep apnea.”

The feature can be enabled on supported Apple Watch models, including the following:

  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch Series 10
  • Apple Watch Series 11
  • Apple Watch Ultra 2
  • Apple Watch Ultra 3
  • Apple Watch SE 3

For this to work and alert you, the watch needs at least 30-days of sleep data before coming to a conclusion t0 notify you.

To turn on the feature, open the Health app on your iPhone>Profile Picture>Health Checklist>Sleep Apnea Notifications>Set Up. An easier method would be to search the keyword ‘Sleep Apnea’ in the health app to enable it.

Hearing Test:

Apple launched a Hearing Test feature in late 2024, along with Hearing Protection and Hearing Aid functionality on AirPods Pro. For now, Apple has only rolled out the Hearing Test feature in India, which allows users to check the amount of hearing loss in each ear.

The feature works by playing sounds at several frequencies and requires you to tap on the screen if you hear the sound. If it were available in India, the Hearing Aid functionality would work on this data of hearing loss to provide a clinical-grade hearing aid experience.

Hearing Test is available on the following AirPods models:

  • AirPods Pro 2 (Lightning)
  • AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C)
  • AirPods Pro 3

Additionally, the Hearing Aid feature is now available in Italy, and Hypertension Notifications are now available in Taiwan, as announced by Greg Joswiak today.
